The Myxer Ringtones app includes a good selection of ringtones in its catalog. In fact, I was impressed, especially considering that the app includes popular songs. I was able to find a variety of current hits and finally settled on Rihanna’s "S&M." The ringtones are divided into categories, including rock, pop, dance, and jazz. Myxer also includes comedic ringtones, animal sounds and other alarms and alerts.
You can also create ringtones from your own music library. The editing screen is very easy to use, and I really like that the entire song is displayed on a graphic -- this makes it easier to select the right sections. You can create ringtones up to 30 seconds (most paid ringtone apps give you 40 seconds).
The process of downloading ringtones with Myxer is a little more complicated than other ringtone apps I’ve tested like Ringtone Designer Pro or RingTunes. First, you have to enter your phone number. Then you have to navigate to a website on your computer, enter in a personalized code, and download the ringtone. THEN you have to sync with iTunes, which is a requirement for using any ringtone app. It is not a torturous process, but other ringtone apps make it a bit easier. For ringtones you create yourself from your music library, the ringtone is emailed to you and then saved to your computer.
I was able to download all of my ringtones without issues, and sound quality was just as good as any other ringtone app I’ve used. Since this is a free app, you will have put up with the occasional ads.
