Oracle SQL Developer with MS SQL Server

If, like me, you’re a fan of Oracle’s free SQL Developer application, then you may want to use it to access other types of database. This is possible by installing a third party JDBC driver. E.g. for SQL Server, Sybase or MySQL

Enter the hostname as the machine IP address or server name.

The syntax for this next part isn’t inuitive – In the port field, enter port number (forward slash) database name (semi colon) instance=instance name. If your server isn’t set up with a named instance and uses the default then you can leave that part blank.
